ROUTE 646 SAFETY IMPROVEMENTS PROJECT COMPLETED IN SOUTHAMPTON COUNTY
Governor Darden Road open to traffic as of Aug. 5

SOUTHAMPTON COUNTY — As of Aug. 5, Route 646 (Governor Darden Road) is open to traffic following the completion of a safety improvements project on a section of Route 646 between Jenkins Drive and Ward Lane in Southampton County.

Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) contractor crews widened the shoulders on a section of Route 646  located approximately 3.5 miles east of the Courtland town line. In addition to shoulder widening and providing additional sight distance, side slopes were regraded and drainage upgrades were installed.

Gray and Sons Construction Inc., headquartered in Southampton County, began construction on the $667,657 project in spring 2022.
