ROUTE 17 AND ROUTE 258 INTERSECTION PROJECT UNDERWAY
Construction on safety improvements continue
Carrollton - A Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) project to improve the intersection at Route 17 (Carrollton Boulevard) and Route 258 (Brewer's Neck Boulevard) in Isle of Wight County is currently under construction.
Construction began earlier this month after Henry S. Branscome, LLC was awarded the $3.25 million construction contract to improve safety at the intersection of Route 17 and Route 258. The project will include the addition of one new left turn lane on Route 17 south entering the James River Crossings development, one additional left turn lane on Route 17 north onto Route 258 westbound, and one new through lane on Route 258 east entering the James River Crossings development. Traffic signalization improvements, roadway elevation adjustments to improve drainage and intersection paving will also be completed.
Throughout the duration of the project, motorists can primarily expect single-lane, weekday lane and shoulder closures on Route 17 and Route 258. Night work is also permitted when required.
Motorists will be advised of additional closures and detour information that may occur during the project. The estimated completion date is fall 2022, and all construction work is dependent upon weather conditions.
Motorists are encouraged to visit www.511virginia.org, call 511, or download Virginia’s free 511 mobile app, for current traffic and travel information.
