VIRTUAL INFORMATION SESSION AVAILABLE FOR WYTHE CREEK ROAD WIDENING PROJECT UPDATES
The public is invited to learn about the updated project design affecting motorists traveling between Hampton and Poquoson.
HAMPTON/POQUOSON — The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) is inviting the public to learn about the updated design for the widening of Wythe Creek Road (Route 172) in both Hampton and Poquoson, via an on-demand, virtual information session, available now through Dec. 3.
The virtual information session includes an interactive website with project documents and a comment form, available online at www.VirginiaDOT.org/WytheCreek. This format provides an opportunity for the public to learn about the project’s updated design and changes in scope since the previous public hearing, held on August 13, 2015.
The project includes the construction of a new 1,544-foot bridge over the causeway, intersection improvements at Cary’s Chapel Road, new sidewalks for pedestrian accommodation, and construction on Wythe Creek Road to widen to three lanes south of the Cary’s Chapel Road intersection for travel into Hampton.
Questions and comments will be accepted on this project until Dec. 3, 2020 through an online form on the project website, mailed to Samba Secka, VDOT Project Manager, 7511 Burbage Street, Suffolk, VA 23435 or e-mailed to Samba.Secka@VDOT.Virginia.gov. Please reference “Wythe Creek Widening Project” in the subject heading.
For those who cannot access the materials virtually, or who are in need of in-person accommodations, you may request an appointment for an in-person meeting by e-mail to Samba.Secka@VDOT.Virginia.gov or by calling 757-956-3058. Once scheduled, requested in-person meetings will provide an opportunity to review printed copies of materials and speak to a member of the project team in a coordinated location. Persons attending any in-person meeting will be required to wear face coverings and abide by all venue safety protocols. Additional safety expectations and procedures for face-to-face meetings will be shared before finalizing the appointment, which must be scheduled in advance.
