SUNNYBANK FERRY OUT OF SERVICE FOR CABLE REPLACEMENT
Ferry in Northumberland County will not operate this afternoon or on Thursday, Aug. 25, due to broken drive cable

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – The Sunnybank Ferry in Northumberland County is out of service due to a broken drive cable.

The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) will install a replacement cable tomorrow, and ferry service will resume on Friday, Aug. 26.

The cable is required to operate the ferry.

Riding the Sunnybank Ferry saves an estimated 20 minutes in travel time when compared with the available land route. The Sunnybank Ferry crosses the Little Wicomico River on Route 644 in Northumberland County.

The ferry can carry a maximum of six passengers and 16 tons.

Updates on ferry service will be available online on the Sunnybank Ferry page on VDOT's website, www.virginiadot.org.

Another ferry on the Northern Neck, the Merry Point Ferry, remains in service in Lancaster County.
