FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – The Merry Point Ferry in Lancaster County will not operate on Friday, July 1, due to a broken guide cable.
The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) is seeking a replacement cable to restore ferry service as soon as possible. The cable is required to operate the ferry.
Located on Route 604 (Ottoman Ferry Road/Merry Point Road), it crosses the western end of the Corrotoman River. Riding the Merry Point Ferry saves an estimated 20 minutes in travel time when compared with the available land route.
The ferry can carry a maximum of six passengers and 16 tons.
Updates on ferry service will be available online on the Merry Point Ferry page on VDOT's website, www.virginiadot.org.
