I-95 southbound will be reduced to one lane each evening this week starting tonight, June 6 through early Friday, June 10

Wednesday, June 8 UPDATE: Full traffic stops scheduled tonight, June 8 and tomorrow, June 9 on I-95 southbound for the 95 Express Lanes Fredericksburg Extension project are no longer needed.
Starting at 10 p.m. tonight, I-95 southbound will be reduced to a single lane near exit 136 (Centreport Parkway) to exit 133 (Route 17) in Stafford County until 4:30 a.m. tomorrow. This work zone is expected to recur Thursday into early Friday, June 10.

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – With continuous construction for the 95 Express Lanes Fredericksburg Extension project, travelers should anticipate overnight delays with intermittent, full traffic stops planned each evening this week on I-95 southbound near Fredericksburg.

Starting tonight, June 6, through early Friday, June 10, I-95 southbound will be reduced to one lane at various points between exit 148 (Quantico) to exit 133 (Route 17). Double lane closures will begin at 10 p.m. followed by intermittent traffic stops between midnight and 3 a.m. as weather permits.

Each traffic stop may last up 30 minutes at a time. Virginia State Police will assist with traffic control by clearing the congestion before the next full traffic stop.

Before starting a trip, motorists are encouraged to check 511Virginia.org for the latest traffic conditions and real-time updates on work zones.

Crews continue to build 10 additional miles of reversible high-occupancy tolled lanes in the median of I-95 in Stafford County from its current southern terminus point at exit 143 (Route 610) to the Route 17 area.

Three new access points to 95 Express Lanes are under construction at exit 148 (Quantico), exit 140 (Courthouse Road) and at exit 133.

The 10-mile extension of express lanes is expected to open to travelers in late 2023.
