FREDERICKSBURG DISTRICT: AS PRIMARY ROAD CONDITIONS IMPROVE, CREWS SHIFTING TO SECONDARY ROADS
Motorists are encouraged to continue delaying unnecessary travel in eastern areas of Northern Neck and Middle Peninsula as road conditions improve; Crews working to reach all roads with snowplows and treatment

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – With improving conditions on primary roads in eastern portions of the Northern Neck and Middle Peninsula, crews are increasingly shifting to plowing and treating secondary routes in residential areas this afternoon.

Primary roads are in minor condition in the Northern Neck and Middle Peninsula, with travel lanes visible and isolated areas of snow and slush remaining. Motorists are encouraged to continue delaying unnecessary travel if possible, as crews work to remove remaining snow coverage along primary roads from turn lanes and crossovers, in intersections, and along road shoulders.

Secondary roads, which are routes numbered 600 and above, are in minor to moderate condition, with isolated patches of snow to partial coverage.

While a precise time estimate cannot be provided for a plow to arrive on a specific road, VDOT's emergency response continues 24 hours a day as needed until all roads have been reached and are safe for travel.

For motorists who must travel this afternoon, plan to use additional caution by allowing extra travel time, significantly reducing speed, and increasing following distance between vehicles. Stay alert for snow removal equipment, and provide space for them to work. Do not pass a snowplow or truck applying treatment materials.
