EXPECT DAYTIME DELAYS ON NORRIS BRIDGE SEPT. 12-OCT. 21
Route 3 traffic over the Rappahannock River between Lancaster and Middlesex counties will be reduced to a single lane between 9 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. on weekdays

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – Route 3 travelers crossing the Rappahannock River between Lancaster and Middlesex counties can expect daytime delays at the Robert O. Norris Bridge for around six weeks, starting Monday, Sept. 12, to allow crews to perform a routine, scheduled bridge inspection and maintenance activities.

Traffic will be reduced to a single lane on the Norris Bridge on weekdays, between 9 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. No work is scheduled for Saturdays or Sundays.

Automated flagging devices will direct one-way, alternating traffic through the work zone when the inspection or maintenance work is underway.

During Monday, Sept. 12-Thursday, Sept. 15, crews will be checking equipment attached to the bridge that gathers general data on vehicle weights.

On Monday, Sept. 19-Wednesday, Oct. 21, an inspection of the entire bridge will be underway. This inspection is required to occur once every two years.

Message boards will be placed at both bridge approaches to notify motorists of the upcoming bridge inspection and lane closures.

Work has been scheduled to occur weather permitting. Real-time updates on this work zone and Route 3 lane closures will be available on 511Virginia.

Download the free mobile 511Virginia app for Apple and Android devices to stay connected, or visit www.511Virginia.org. Motorists also can reach 511Virginia by calling 511 from any phone in Virginia.

Do not use a handheld cell phone or mobile device while driving (it’s the law).
