VDOT INVITES PUBLIC COMMENT ON ROUTE 17 AND ROUTE 360 TRAVEL IN TAPPAHANNOCK
Take an online survey to provide feedback on existing travel on Rt. 17 and Rt. 360 between Airport Road and LaGrange Industrial Drive
FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) invites the public to participate in a virtual public comment opportunity to share their feedback on traveling Route 17 (Church Lane) and Route 360 in Tappahannock.
In partnership with the Town of Tappahannock, Essex County and other local stakeholders, VDOT has launched a planning study of the Route 17 and Route 360 corridor.
To gather public input at the beginning of this planning process, VDOT has launched an online survey:
http://metroquestsurvey.com/aa5i5d
The online survey will be open to accept comments through June 4, 2021.
Comments received at this stage will help determine which locations along Route 17 and Route 360 should be reviewed for potential improvements.
This study will examine safety issues for motorists and pedestrians, and for other travel modes such as bicyclists and bus riders. It will also examine traffic congestion and access spacing issues.
Route 17 is the main north-south road in Tappahannock’s historic district. It is also a corridor of statewide significance for moving people and goods throughout Virginia and outside the state. Route 17 and Route 360 run concurrently through the Town of Tappahannock from Queen Street through Brays Fork.
This study is part of VDOT’s Strategically Targeted and Affordable Roadway Solutions (STARS) program. Through the program, VDOT planners and engineers work with local planners and stakeholders to address critical safety and traffic congestion challenges at key locations throughout Virginia.
Draft recommendations for potential projects will be presented to the public in late 2021. The public will have an opportunity to comment on the draft recommendations before the plan is finalized. The study will not set construction dates for any improvements, but will develop proposed improvements that localities can pursue for funding.
For individuals who prefer to share comments in writing or by email, comments may be sent to Linda LaSut, VDOT Project Manager, 87 Deacon Road, Fredericksburg, VA 22405, or emailed to fred.comments@vdot.virginia.gov. Please reference “Route 17 and Route 360 Corridor Study” in the email subject line.
Print copies of the online survey are available to be mailed to the public. To request a mailed copy of the survey, please contact the project manager at the contact information listed above or by phone at (540) 899-4260.
