FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – As part of construction underway to improve Interstate 95 in the Fredericksburg area, travelers can anticipate delays during overnight and daytime lane closures scheduled this week between the exit 133 (Route 17) and exit 136 (Centreport Parkway) interchanges in Stafford County.

Additionally, milling and paving on I-95 northbound in Caroline County will continue this week, which requires double lane closures nightly through Thursday evening. As part of this work, the I-95 Northbound Safety Rest Area in Ladysmith will be closed overnight on the evenings of Tuesday, Aug. 31 and Wednesday, Sept. 1, between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. the following morning. The rest area is closing to allow crews to pave the rest area’s ramps and merge areas.

Starting Sept. 1, daytime lane closures will be allowed on I-95 northbound in the Fredericksburg area, outside of peak travel times, following a seasonal restriction during May-August.

This week, I-95 lane closures are scheduled in the Fredericksburg area at the following dates and times, weather permitting:

Monday, Aug. 30 – Tuesday, Aug. 31
• I-95 Northbound at Exit 104 (Carmel Church) and Exit 110 (Ladysmith)
o 9 p.m. – 5 a.m. – Mobile operation with double lane closure

• I-95 Northbound at Exit 133 (Route 17) to Exit 136 (Centreport Parkway )
o 9 p.m. – 4:30 a.m. – Single lane closure

• I-95 Northbound at Exit 143 (Garrisonville Road) to Exit 148 (Quantico)
o 9 p.m. – 4:30 a.m. – Single lane closure

• I-95 Southbound at Exit 148 (Quantico) to Exit 136 (Centreport Parkway)
o 9 p.m. – 5 a.m. – Mobile, single lane closure for overhead sign inspections

Tuesday, Aug. 31 – Wednesday, Sept. 1
• I-95 Northbound at Exit 104 (Carmel Church) and Exit 110 (Ladysmith)
o 9 p.m. – 5 a.m. – Mobile operation with double lane closure and entrance to Safety Area closed

• I-95 Northbound at Exit 133 (Route 17) to Exit 136 (Centreport Parkway )
o 9 p.m. – 4:30 a.m. – Single lane closure

• I-95 Northbound at Exit 140 (Courthouse Road) to Exit 148 (Quantico)
o 9 p.m. – 4:30 a.m. – Single lane closure

• I-95 Northbound at Exit 143 (Garrisonville Road) to Exit 148 (Quantico)
o 9 p.m. – 4:30 a.m. – Single lane closure

• I-95 Southbound at Exit 148 (Quantico) to Exit 143 (Garrisonville Road)
o 9 p.m. – 5 a.m. – Single lane closure

o 9 p.m. – 10 p.m. – Single lane closure
o 10 p.m. – 4:30 a.m. – Double lane closure

o 10 p.m. – 4:30 a.m. – Double lane closure
o 4:30 a.m. – 6 a.m. – Single lane closure

Message boards will be posted along I-95 to alert motorists to delays ahead.
