ROUTE 3 CLOSED FOR FLOODING IN WESTMORELAND
Both travel lanes of Route 3 are closed west of Montross; Motorists should follow the posted detour route

5:45 P.M. UPDATE: Route 3 in Westmoreland County will remain closed to traffic overnight for motorist safety at Chandler's Mill Pond, which is just west of the Town of Montross.

Although flood waters have receded from the road surface on Route 3, water levels remain on the bridge beams and must drop further before the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) can safely inspect the area underneath the bridge for structural damage. VDOT structure and bridge inspectors plan to be on site tomorrow morning to inspect the bridge. A detour is posted along Stratford Hall Road, Wild Sally Road, and Panorama Road, and it will remain in place overnight.

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. — Route 3 is closed in Westmoreland County due to flooding near Chandlers Mill Pond, west of the Town of Montross.

Virginia Department of Transportation crews have posted a detour route. Motorists are encouraged to follow the recommended route:

Route 214 (Stratford Hall Road)
Route 644 (Wild Sally Road)
Route 622 (Panorama Road)
