REVISED SCHEDULE OF I-95 LANE CLOSURES NEAR TRUSLOW ROAD OVERPASS THIS WEEK
Expect overnight delays on I-95 this week with double lane closures as demolition begins on the Truslow Road bridge in Stafford County

FREDERICKSBURG, Va.  –  Motorists should anticipate overnight lane closures and delays on Interstate 95 in Stafford County as demolition of the Truslow Road overpass will begin this week, starting tonight, Jan. 28 through early Saturday, Feb. 1.

Weather permitting, the following I-95 lane closures are scheduled at the Truslow Road overpass, which is located at mile marker 134:

Interstate 95 Northbound

  • Tuesday – Thursday, 10 p.m. – 4:30 a.m. Double lane closure
  • Thursday – Friday, 9 p.m. – 4:30 a.m. Single left lane closure

Interstate 95 Southbound

  • Tuesday – Wednesday, 9 p.m. – 10 a.m. Single left lane closure
  • Thursday – Friday, 10 p.m. – 4:30 a.m. Double lane closure.
  • Friday – Saturday, 10 p.m. – 7 a.m. Single left lane closure

Virginia State Police will assist with traffic control.

Bridge demolition will require double lane closures and intermittent full traffic stops on I-95 and can only occur during overnight hours to limit the impact to I-95 travelers. Specific dates and times for intermittent full traffic stops on I-95 will be announced next week.

Demolition of the existing overpass will be underway for an estimated four to six weeks.

Truslow Road is closed at the I-95 overpass and anticipated to reopen in fall 2020.

Project Background

The I-95 Express Lanes Fredericksburg Extension project is replacing the Truslow Road bridge to accommodate construction of two new reversible Express Lanes in the median.

Crews are currently building the 10-mile extension of the I-95 Express Lanes in the median of I-95 from south of Exit 143 (Route 610) to the vicinity of Exit 133 (Route 17).

Construction on the $565 million project began in July 2019.

The extended Express Lanes are anticipated to open to traffic in late 2022. All work related to the project is scheduled to be completed in 2023.

Transurban, the operator of the existing 95 Express Lanes facility, is managing the construction of the I-95 Express Lanes Fredericksburg Extension. The design-build project contractor is a joint venture between Branch Civil and Flatiron.
