Thursday, May 21 UPDATE: Due to the forecast of inclement weather, the contractor has postponed tonight, May 21 and tomorrow, May 22 scheduled lane closures and full traffic stops on I-95 northbound.

Tuesday, May 19 UPDATE: All lane closures and full traffic stops on I-95 northbound scheduled for tonight, May 19 and tomorrow, May 20 have been canceled. Weather permitting, the contractor will have double lane closures on I-95 northbound between the Rappahannock River Bridge and north of Exit 133 (Route 17) starting at 10 p.m. on Thursday, May 21 with intermittent full traffic stops between midnight and 3 a.m. on Friday, May 22.

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – Construction crews continue to build the new Route 652 (Truslow Road) overpass, which will be located between Interstate 95 Exit 133 (Route 17) and Exit 136 (Centreport Parkway), in Stafford County, as part of the I-95 Express Lanes Fredericksburg Extension project.  

Weather permitting, all I-95 northbound traffic will be intermittently stopped to allow crews to remove an overhead sign starting early Tuesday, May 19 through early Friday, May 23.  

Traffic may be stopped for up to 30 minutes at a time between the Rappahannock River Bridge and north of Exit 133 (Route 17) between midnight and 3 a.m. In between each stop, congestion will be allowed to clear before the next full stop. 

Virginia State Police will assist with traffic control in the work zone. 

Message boards are posted along I-95 northbound to alert motorists to delays ahead. 

Lane closures have been scheduled on I-95 northbound for the following evenings, weather permitting: 

Monday, May 18 – Tuesday, May 19 

• 10 p.m. – 4:30 a.m. – Double lane closure
• Midnight to 3 a.m. – Intermittent full traffic stops up to 30 minutes 
• 4:30 a.m. – All lanes open 

Tuesday, May 19 – Wednesday, May 20 

• 10 p.m. – 4:30 a.m. – Double lane closure
• Midnight to 3 a.m. – Intermittent full traffic stops up to 30 minutes 
• 4:30 a.m. – All lanes open 

Wednesday, May 20 – Thursday, May 21

• 10 p.m. – 4:30 a.m. – Double lane closure
• Midnight to 3 a.m. – Intermittent full traffic stops up to 30 minutes 
• 4:30 a.m. – All lanes open 

Thursday, May 21 – Friday, May 22

• 10 p.m. – 4:30 a.m. – Double lane closure
• Midnight to 3 a.m. – Intermittent full traffic stops up to 30 minutes 
• 4:30 a.m. – All lanes open 

Project Background 

Crews are currently building the 10-mile extension of the I-95 Express Lanes in the median of I-95 from south of Exit 143 (Route 610) to the vicinity of Exit 133 (Route 17).  

Construction on the $565 million project began in July 2019. 

The extended Express Lanes are anticipated to open to traffic in late 2022. All work related to the project is scheduled to be completed in 2023. 

Transurban, the operator of the existing 95 Express Lanes facility, is managing construction of the I-95 Express Lanes Fredericksburg Extension. The design-build project contractor is a joint venture between Branch Civil and Flatiron.
