CANCELED: I-95 LANE CLOSURES TONIGHT IN STAFFORD COUNTY
Work will resume on the evening of Friday, Sept. 18 to place bridge beams for a new Truslow Road overpass as part of the I-95 Express Lanes Fredericksburg Extension project
SEPT. 18, 2020 UPDATE: Lane closures scheduled for tonight on I-95 northbound at mile marker 134 in Stafford County for Truslow Road overpass construction are canceled. All northbound lanes of I-95 will remain open this evening and early Saturday, Sept. 19.
FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – Overnight lane closures scheduled on Interstate 95 northbound in the Fredericksburg area for this evening have been cancelled due to rain.
Work is scheduled to resume on the evening of Friday, Sept. 18, to lift bridge beams into position for a new overpass on Route 652 (Truslow Road) in Stafford County. The overpass spans I-95 at mile marker 134, just north of Exit 133 (Route 17).
The I-95 Express Lanes Fredericksburg Extension project is replacing the Truslow Road overpass to accommodate construction of two new reversible Express Lanes in the median. The project is lengthening the two-lane overpass and will slightly widen it to have expanded road shoulders.
Weather permitting, lane closures with intermittent, full traffic stops are scheduled for Friday, Sept. 18 into early Saturday, Sept. 19:
Friday, Sept. 18 – Saturday, Sept. 19
I-95 northbound
- 9 p.m.– Single lane closure
- 10 p.m.– Double lane closure, with single lane of northbound traffic diverted into temporary travel lane in median
- 5:30 a.m. – All lanes open
Message boards on I-95 will notify motorists of upcoming congestion and lane closures for this work zone. Travelers are encouraged to use an alternate routes if possible to avoid delays.
Virginia State Police will assist with traffic control in the work zone.
Project Background
Crews are currently building a 10-mile extension of the I-95 Express Lanes in the median of I-95 from south of Exit 143 (Route 610) to the vicinity of Exit 133 (Route 17). The extended Express Lanes are anticipated to open to traffic in late 2022.
Truslow Road closed to through traffic for overpass construction on Jan. 27, 2020, and was estimated to reopen to traffic in fall 2020. The schedule has been extended, with the road now anticipated to open in winter 2020-early 2021.
Built in 1963, the Truslow Road overpass is located between Beagle Road and Samuel Lane in Stafford. The previous bridge was structurally deficient, which is an indicator that the bridge required maintenance or replacement to improve its condition.
Truslow Road carries approximately 2,600 vehicles a day, according to a 2018 traffic count.
