ROUTE 620 (KISSINGER SPRINGS ROAD) NOW OPEN IN NORTHUMBERLAND COUNTY
Project to replace bridge over Kissinger Mill Pond is complete
FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – Route 620 (Kissinger Springs Road) over Kissinger Mill Pond in Northumberland County has reopened to traffic after crews replaced the bridge beams and deck.
Last year, Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) closed the bridge immediately for motorist safety after finding deterioration in key support elements during a bridge safety inspection.
The improved bridge remains a single-lane crossing, and has a new timber deck and steel beams.
Before this project, the nearly 30-year-old bridge was limited to carrying vehicles weighing 10 tons or less. The new bridge does not have a posted weight limit. VDOT advises the roadway remains impassable to through truck traffic.
Approximately 129 vehicles a day travel along this section of Kissinger Springs Road, according to a VDOT traffic count.
