ROUTE 612 (LILY POND ROAD) IN KING AND QUEEN COUNTY WILL CLOSE NEXT WEEK FOR BRIDGE REPAIRS
Lily Pond Rd. over Exol Swamp will be closed to through traffic for approximately two weeks starting Tuesday, Nov. 12

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) will soon begin work to repair a bridge over Exol Swamp on Route 612 (Lily Pond Road) in King and Queen County.  

VDOT will close Lily Pond Road near the bridge at 8 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 12. 

Weather permitting, the repairs to the bridge will take approximately two weeks to complete. 

Local traffic is encouraged to follow the recommended detour route, which is approximately 9 miles: 

  • Route 617 (Providence Road)
  • Route 607 (Crouches Road)
  • Route 631 (Poor House Lane)
  • Route 630 (DeShazo Road) 

Message boards will be posted this week to alert drivers to the upcoming bridge repairs. 

The bridge over Exol Swamp was built in 1972. 

According to a recent traffic count, approximately 60 vehicles use the bridge each day. 

The road is anticipated to reopen to traffic on Tuesday, Nov. 26.
