I-95 LANE CLOSURES THIS WEEK NEAR FREDERICKSBURG
Expect double and single lane closures on I-95 northbound and southbound for Improve95 projects on Monday, April 8 through early Saturday, April 13

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – Interstate 95 travelers should anticipate daytime and overnight work zones on I-95 northbound and southbound this week in the Fredericksburg area for construction activities underway for Improve95 projects.

Weather permitting, the following lane closures are scheduled starting today, Monday April 8, through early Saturday, April 13. This week's lane closures include an I-95 northbound work zone with overnight double lane closures on Monday through Friday evening at Exit 140 (Courthouse Road) in Stafford County:

I-95 Southbound

Exit 143 (Route 610/Garrisonville Road to near Exit 140 (Route 630/Courthouse Road)

  • Thursday – Friday, 9 p.m. – 6 a.m.
  • Friday – Saturday, 10 p.m. – 7 a.m.

Expect a single lane closure on I-95 southbound near Exit 143 (Route 610/Garrisonville Road) and at mile marker 141, which is located just before Exit 140 (Route 630/Courthouse Road) in Stafford County, for geotechnical boring work for the future I-95 Express Lanes Fredericksburg Extension project.

Near Exit 136 (Centreport Parkway) to Exit 130 (Route 3/Fredericksburg)

  • Monday– Thursday, 9m. – 10 a.m. 
  • Thursday – Friday, 9 p.m. – 6 a.m.
  • Friday – Saturday, 10 p.m. – 7 a.m.

Expect alternating single lane closures on I-95 southbound from mile marker 135, just south of Exit 136/Centreport Parkway in Stafford County, to Exit 130 (Route 3) in Fredericksburg for construction activities for the I-95 Southbound Rappahannock River Crossing and for geotechnical boring work for the future Interstate 95 Express Lanes Fredericksburg Extension project.

Exit 118 (Route 606/Thornburg) in Spotsylvania County

  • Tuesday9m. – 3 p.m.

Expect a single lane closure on I-95 southbound at Exit 118 (Route 606/Thornburg) for construction activities for the Mudd Tavern Road overpass replacement and interchange improvement project. 

I-95 Northbound

Exit 118 (Route 606/Thornburg) in Spotsylvania County

  • Tuesday9:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.

Expect a single lane closure on I-95 northbound at Exit 118 (Route 606/Thornburg) for construction activities for the Mudd Tavern Road overpass replacement and interchange improvement project.

Exit 133 (Route 17/Falmouth) in Stafford County

  • Monday – Thursday9:30m. – 3:30 p.m.

Expect a single lane closure on I-95 northbound near Exit 133, just north of the Rappahannock River bridge in Stafford. Expect heavy truck traffic between mile marker 132 and mile marker 134. Be alert to trucks slowing down to enter or exit the median at various construction entrances throughout the work zone. The work zone is needed for construction activities for the I-95 Southbound Rappahannock River Crossing.

Exit 140 (Route 630/Courthouse Road)

  • Monday – Friday, 9 p.m. – 4:30 a.m.

A single lane on I-95 northbound will be closed at 9 p.m. followed by double lane closures at 10 p.m. All lanes will reopen by 4:30 a.m. The double lane closures are needed to allow crews to safely remove overhead work platforms used to build the new I-95 overpasses.

Near Exit 140 (Route 630/Courthouse Road) to Exit 148 (Quantico)

  • Monday – Friday, 9 p.m. – 4:30 a.m.
  • Friday – Saturday, 10 p.m. – 7 a.m.

Expect alternating single lane closures at various locations on I-95 northbound starting at mile marker 141, north of Exit 140 (Route 630/Courthouse Road) to mile marker 149, which is north of Exit 148 (Quantico) in Prince William County for geotechnical boring work for the future I-95 Express Lanes Fredericksburg Extension project. 

Message boards will warn drivers to stay alert for the work zones ahead and possible delays.
