EXPECT OVERNIGHT WORK ZONES ON I-95 THIS WEEK NEAR FREDERICKSBURG
Delays are possible with double lane closures starting tonight, July 15 through early Saturday, July 20

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – Overnight travelers on Interstate 95 should anticipate lane closures and possible delays in the Fredericksburg area with various work zones scheduled this week starting tonight, July 15, through early Saturday, July 20.

A work zone on the on-ramp to I-95 southbound from Route 3 eastbound in Spotsylvania County has been rescheduled. The on-ramp will now be closed the evening of Thursday, July 18, for guardrail repair.

There will be work zones for construction for the Improve95 projects and paving a section of I-95 northbound near Exit 136/Centreport Parkway in Stafford County.

Weather permitting, the following lane closures are scheduled: 

Interstate 95 Northbound and Southbound   

Drivers can expect a single left lane closure between mile markers 132 – 136 located just south of Exit 133/Falmouth and Exit 136/Centreport Parkway in Stafford County. Crews will be setting concrete barriers along the shoulder as part of the Interstate 95 Southbound Rappahannock River Crossing project and clearing trees in the work zone for the I-95 Express Lanes - Fredericksburg Extension project. 

  • I-95 Northbound

Monday – Thursday 9 p.m. – 4:30 a.m. and Friday, 10 p.m. – 4:30 a.m.  Single left lane and shoulder closure 

  • I-95 Southbound

Monday– Thursday, 9 p.m. – 10 a.m. and Friday, 10 p.m. – 4:30 a.m.  Single left lane and shoulder closure

Interstate 95 Northbound

Exit 136 (Centreport Parkway)

  • Monday – Thursday, 9 p.m. – 4:30 a.m.

Crews will continue paving on I-95 northbound between mile markers 135 – 137 near Exit 136/Centreport Parkway. One lane will be closed in the work zone at 9 p.m. followed by a double lane closure at 10 p.m. each night. Motorists should be alert for a temporary, rough travel surface in milled areas.

Interstate 95 Southbound 

Exit 130 (Route 3) On-Ramp Closure

  • Thursday, 9 p.m. – 4:30 a.m.

The I-95 southbound on-ramp from Route 3 eastbound in Spotsylvania County will be closed overnight to allow crews to repair guardrail. Drivers may either make a U-turn at Gateway Boulevard onto Route 3 westbound or travel to Route 1 southbound to merge at the Exit 126/Massaponax interchange. 

Virginia State Police will assist with traffic control with work zones requiring double lane closures. 

Message boards will warn drivers to stay alert for the work zones ahead and possible delays.
