CULPEPER —Virginia Department of Transportation snow removal operations are in full swing this morning as the winter storm sweeps across the Commonwealth. In VDOT’s Culpeper District, conditions on interstate and primary highways are changing rapidly and range from mostly clear to snow-covered as bands of heavy snow continue to pass through. Shoulders, ramps, crossovers and turn lanes are still snow-covered and driving conditions remain hazardous.

VDOT urges the public to avoid travel during the storm and give crews time to clear the roads before venturing out for non-essential driving. Many secondary roads across the nine-county Culpeper District are covered with snow and slush, with conditions expected to improve this afternoon as crews shift their work from the interstates and primary highways onto the secondary routes and into neighborhoods.

Those who must be on the road during the storm should reduce speed, increase following distance and use VDOT’s free 511 tools to find out about road conditions along the route.
