VDOT is ready for snow, asks motorists to prepare

BRISTOL - With a white Christmas in the forecast, Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) crews are prepared with the needed supplies, equipment and work force for snow removal operations. The 12-county Bristol District has approximately $19 million set aside for winter weather, with almost 700 pieces of equipment such as trucks, loaders and motor graders ready to clear roads of snow in the Bristol District. Statewide, 690,000 tons of salt, sand and treated abrasives and 2.1 million gallons of liquid calcium chloride and salt brine are available for snow removal.

If travel is necessary during snow, VDOT offers many tools to help motorists determine road conditions prior to their travel.

For traffic alerts and traveler information, visit 511Virginia.org. VDOT also offers a 511 app for android or iOS.
