William Edward Dodson (left), with son Willie.
On May 6, 1965, William Edward Dodson, a levelman, was working with another surveyor in the middle of US 17 in southern Fauquier County when he was struck by a car driven by a 79-year old woman. A warning sign and two “Men Surveying” signs were in place and the sight distance was unusually good.
Mr. Dodson, who lived in Brightwood in Madison County, had been with the Department since July, 1960. He is survived by his wife and two children. His son, Willie Dodson, is now superintendent of VDOT’s Rhoadesville AHQ.
